Initial Education for Families with Children Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes: Consensus from Experts in a Delphi Study

A child’s diagnosis of type 1 diabetes can create major challenges for the family, and early education about disease is crucial. The aim this study was to identify reach expert consensus priority topics two initial weeks families with a child diagnosed diabetes. Specialist nurses (n = 15) working children adolescents at Swedish pediatric clinics participated in Delphi study. We sent these experts three rounds web survey analyzed their answers using qualitative content analysis descriptive statistics. results show experts’ on most important educational highest were actions hypo-/hyperglycemia, blood-glucose monitoring, symptoms hypo-/hyperglycemia adjustment insulin. top-ranked line International Society Pediatric Adolescent Diabetes guidelines educating also considered by families. identified here help educate diabetes, contribute further research into education, inform development national guidelines.
